WEEK 4

the picture above is a print screen when i was testing the inquire cursor to verify that the area chosen is in approximately the same place in both viewer.

The usefulness of rectification is that it helps correct geographic distortions it also convert image to a standard map coordinate system.

Give improved, map-like geometry to air photos, satellite images, and air video frames by removing their systematic distortions of distance, perspective, and other factors. Image rectification processes reduce image distortion so that your images can serve as accurate map bases. from:(http://www.microimages.com/getstart/rectify.htm)

pitfalls of image rectification:

1) very time consuming

2)when the accuracy of the map points are not well known

3)when the images lack clearly identifiable points to correspond to the maps.

I have looked online for more reading reference so i could fully understand what is image rectification my answer is a combination of my readings and actual lab exercise experience.

WEEK 3

Questions1. Provide a brief description of why the following features appear as they do in this thermal infrared image:

RoadsNatural > they have lighter/ brighter color because the temperature is hotter.

Man-made vegetation>they have lower temp or no heat that is why they have darker color shades.

Sidewalks and patios> same as te roads it retained more heat during the day so the temperature is higher thats why they are bright.

Storage sheds in back yards>the temperature from this barns are low just like the house so they would be represented in a draker color shade.

Automobiles > they would appear as dark shades but their hood will have hot spot so that part of the vehicle will be white.

Bright spots on many of the roof tops > this will reperesents chimneys or heat vents.

LAB 2

The diffenrece between the panchromatic image and the multispectral mode, is that vegetation, urban areas and land in the multispectral is represented in blue while on the panchormatic image its hard to tell because it is in greysacle. You can assume that the darker shade of grade is water and the lighter ones or depending on the type of color shade wether it is vegetation , land , or urban areas.

on question seven it says multispectral mode RGB:(2,3,4) so this is the photo when i changed the RGB as specified.

RGB (4,3,2)

RGB(1,1,1)

Week 1

What problems might you infer or identify in using this type of photography?

I am not really an expert in reading infrared's.Some problems that may occur in using this type of photography are: misinterpretation of data if skills are not there, Confusion with the colors and shapes.

Things that i can identify:
buildings, houses, roads, vegetation, body of water, golf course, part of an airport runway, beach, bridge, boats in the water.
